Inspired by Hip Hop, Breaks and House tunes rising up in the dance music scene in Tokyo, k-sobajima got into spinning records as an 18-year-old sound engineering student. As massively playing gigs at various Tokyo clubs to build up his DJ’ing career, his musical perspective broadened to include Minimal House and European tunes while delving into artists such as Lil’ Louis, The Orb and LFO.
Acquiring a DJ’ing position at Tokyo’s fabled venue, ‘Gold’, in 1992 and being part of it all dramatically spurred k-sobajima’s interest in production, mixing and engineering as well as in the club scene overseas; and shortly afterwards he relocated to New York to further pursue his new interests. After returning home in 1998, his newly developed skills began to flourish as he outputted his first remixing track, “GTS / That Lady”, in 1999. In the year 2000, he officially joined NITELIST MUSIC as DJ / Mix Engineer.
As a mix engineer, k-sobajima has passionately produced tremendous amount of tracks including Sylvester’s “Over and Over Remix”, Malawi Rocks’s “Spanish Hustle”, Susumu Yokota’s “Could Heaven Ever Be Like This Remix”. In 2001, his original track, “MULTIPLIEZ”, received critical acclaims from diverse DJs and music magazines in Europe, where it was played not only by house DJs but techno DJs such as Kevin Sanderson and Derrick May. “X-PERIENCE” released in 2002 became the cornerstone on which his soundstyle and career as a mix engineer were built. Having integrated both progressive and electro house elements far before becoming the norm in the scene, he has also continued his DJ’ing career on a high note, spinning at Tokyo’s prestigious venues like ‘Yellow’ and ‘Womb’.
k-sobajima’s recent tracks include: “X-PERIECENCE” (contained on CD “ageha Vol.1”), “THEME FROM SPACE INVADERS” (collaborated with MALAWI ROCKS), Taro Kawauchi & Bullblast’s “Inch by Inch (2006)” (as being played by DJ HERNAN CATTANEO). In addition to these, Inner city jam orchestra’s “We Got The Love 2007”, his latest work collaborated with EMMA, became a monster hit tune of 2006 on the domestic chart.
